My house has been on the market for about a month now. I desperately want it to sell. Someone asked me if I cried when I moved out. No. Not one tear. Blueberry and I lived in that house for four years. There were lots of memories made in that house. However, I am more than ready to close that chapter and live the new chapter that has started. Part of the new chapter is leaving behind the old house and I am not sad about that one bit.
There have been a quite a few showings so far and a week ago last Friday I had a call from the realtor's office:
Realtor: "Hi there. Just wanted to let you know another agent showed your house today around lunch time and there's something I'd like to talk to you about".
Me: (heart skips a beat, first thought... we have an offer!!)
Realtor: "While the couple was looking at your house, one of them got sick and vomited on your carpet".
Me: *crickets*
Realtor: Clears throat.
Me: "Are you kidding me"???
Realtor: "No. I am not kidding you. In all my years of real estate this is a first. I have never had, nor have I heard of someone throwing up in a house that was being shown".
Me: "So, what do we do now? Do I have to go clean it up"??? (gag reflex starting to kick in)
Realtor: "No! The other agent will take care of having it cleaned up. However, since it is Friday afternoon, they are having trouble finding someone to come out. I told them to call *Generic Cleaning Company* as they will do emergencies. Stop by tomorrow to make sure it's clean and if not let me know".
Just a tip if you are house hunting... please do not look at houses if you are not feeling well! I did stop over there the next day and it had been cleaned. My in-laws were there with me and we all examined the carpet and came to the conclusion that *Generic Cleaning Company* had done their job.
Hubs and I went to the house today to finish a few small projects. There is a very noticeable, bright yellow stain on the carpet where the potential buyer got sick. A call was made to the realtor and they will see what they can do to get someone out there again.
There should be a "you puke, you buy" agreement that every potential buyer should sign before entering a house. Had we thought of that detail a couple of weeks ago, the puke people would be the proud owners of the house they, quite literally, made their mark on.
