Part One Done

I got Blueberry on the plane and off to CA without a hitch.  She was excited which helped me. I think having my crying spell the night before helped too.  We got her checked in and Peanut and I got our special passes to go to the gate with her.  We had a bite to eat before she had to get on the plane and after we ate we went to check in at the gate.  They told us that she would board last and then I was supposed to wait there until they got word that the plane was in the air.

While we were waiting a mom and daughter a couple of chairs down asked if Blueberry was flying alone and if it was her first time.  When we confirmed yes to all of the above the mom said her daughter was flying alone for the first time as well.  The girls smiled shyly at each other while us adults visited.  The time came for the girls to board and I was surprisingly strong.  No tears, gave Blueberry a big hug, told her I loved her, etc. and watched her walk down the jet way with the gate attendant.  I turned to the other mom and could tell she was having a really hard time.  Her eyes were filled with tears and it looked like she wanted to run after her daughter.

We waited together until we had the all clear to leave.  She started telling me a little of the situation her daughter was going to and it didn't sound good.  Her nine year old was on her way to CA for the first time alone to see her Grandparents and her Dad.  Apparently things with the dad aren't good and the visits are supervised by the Grandparents.  I could understand the mom's increased worry.  I was worried about the flight but not about what would happen once Blueberry got to CA.  This mom was not only worried about the flight but how things would go the entire week her daughter was away.  It made me really glad that even though Blueberry's dad isn't much of a day, at least he's decent to her and I don't have to worry about how she is being treated when she's with him.

Blueberry has texted a couple of times and it sounds like she is having a blast.  She was so excited to have a break from the snow and cold and the weather was supposed to be beautiful in CA, highs in the 80's.  I'm jealous!  We go pick her up on Sunday and I will be glad when she is home safe once again and I can't wait to hear all about her trip.
