This morning was good. The sun was shining, birds were singing and Child and Mean Mother both woke up in spectacular moods. (All of that is true except for the birds. There were no birds chirping merrily. They are still down south where icicles are unheard of and the wind that blows is balmy, not frigid.)
Anywho, back to the good morning. Things were running smoothly in the household. No tears when combing Child's hair (miracle), all desired clothes were clean and snap free (happy dance) and we were ahead of schedule. Unheard of in our house. Usually we are rushing around like the tasmanian devil, trying to get out the door on time. Today we had time to discuss world peace. (Or toots. Whatever.)
On our drive to school we pass two bus stops. At the first stop there were no kids. I assumed it was because we were slightly ahead of schedule. At the second stop, no kids. My next conclusion was that it must be a two hour late start day. Didn't really make sense though because they never have late starts on Child's school days. (And if it WAS a late start day, why did I not have sense enough to go back home then?? It's a mystery that still puzzles me.)
When we pulled up to the school I thought it was odd that there was not a school bus to be seen. The parking lot was not its usual bustle of parents and kids scurrying for the warmth inside the building. Racking my pea brain, I vaguely remembered something about it being the end of the trimester and there being no school. I called another parent who has children in the same school system and yup, no school today or tomorrow. Whoops.
Child had a great idea though, "Hey mom, they should make a thing to show you when there is no school. Like the lunch calendar to show you what's for lunch. They should do a calendar to show when it's a no school day".
Ah, yes. Great idea, we should suggest that. And by the way, while you're suggesting the calendar, please ignore the one currently hanging on the refrigerator.
