Last week I had parent/teacher conferences for Blueberry. She's doing amazing. My little smartypants. They expect the kids to be at a Level 4 reading level at this point in the year. Blueberry is at Level 8! They are expected to know 100 sight words by the end of the year and she is at 70.
She is surprisingly strong in math. They have learned how to tell time and have gotten into counting money. So far they have worked with pennies, nickels, and dimes. She is excelling in the math department which makes me very happy. I always struggled in that subject and I'm hoping she continues to do well.
The teacher told me that Blueberry is a very good role model for the other students. She is always on task, is quiet when she is supposed to be quiet and plays well with others. The only negative she had to say is that Blueberry can be a little pokey at times. She told me that Blueberry is a perfectionist and in her quest to have everything done just right she tends to take extra time and doesn't always finish right away but she said "I can't really fault her for wanting to do her best work". So, the negative did have a positive spin to it.
I'm just so proud of Blueberry. Her reading has really taken off, she tries to read everything these days and she is obsessed with writing. Her spelling sometimes leaves a little something to be desired, but I can usually figure out what she is trying to say. I hope she is always this enthusiastic about learning.

I feel so very proud of your little Blueberry! What a wonderful job she is doing! Don't worry too much about the spelling. They still have a tendency to spell phonetically at her age and she will figure it all out soon. Just encourage her to express herself with whatever words she chooses even if they are sometimes spelled incorrectly. It sounds like she is a shining example for the other children in the class, so great job, Mom!
Thank you for the lovely comment you left for me today. I always appreciate hearing from you.
Hugs,
Debbie
